I dont think Varta recommend their Silver batteries for leisure use so not sure about this myself. But if you can get the life out of them OK.

I guess the reason that they still build them with double glazed side windows is that they are certainly warmer when its cold outside and they dont steam up, well not on the inside of the van anyway....

I guess you have not got the grills off as there is usually screws in behind them.

The grills are usually a push fit and getting around the edge with a sharp point usually does the job....
