The author of the feature in the link HeatherChloe provided for andalucia.com - Theresa O'Shea - summarises the Spanish legal position pretty well on this page:

http://www.andalucia.com/beaches/naturist.htm

Theresa is a keen naturist, has lived on the Costa del Sol for a number of years and is married to a Spaniard. She's knowledgeable about the law in Spain as it affects naturism.

But, in a nutshell, I think you are right Alan. All that's required is a little common sense.

I also went to Maui, in Hawaii, took a small tent and a hire car, and saw the island as the locals do. The sites were either free or $5 max and only locals, not many people at all, and there were some interesting places there too!

HeatherChloe I stayed at a campsite in Cabo de Gata, near Almeria, some years go.

I was driving a rented car and had a small tent. The area was completely off the beaten track. It's a national park and very wild but with amazing coast.

We walked about 45 minutes from the campsite along the coast and came toma naturist beach, also with a kind of hang out of hippy type wild campers.

Very beautiful though.

rosalan We are in the process of trying to find which sites are open and when so that we can use our ACSI card, which makes a huge difference. Almanat is open on 1st September, bringing their price down from €40+ to €16, El Portus starts on 15th September but we are always keeping our eyes open for Naturist Aires in France and Spain. Sadly Temple of the Sun, El Zorro, Sierra Natura and Camping Aciete are not in the ACSI book.
Have a great summer, wherever you go.

Hey, you two, chill out. You can go clothed or not as far as I am concerned.

If you do know of good naturist beaches let us know.

We won't bite! Promise!!

Impressed you got to Cofete - we hired a 4x4 about ten years ago and travelled the first couple of kilometres of the track, but couldn't face many more kms of the same to access it. Have a friend who raves about it. Don't know if the track has been improved in recent times?[/quote]

Yes, last time we tried was in '93 in a Fiat Panda! Surprised we got as far as we did. Got as far as the viewpoint.

The tracks are now regularly planed by machinery and we got caught up in a bit of that. There were a couple of small/medium motorhomes down at the beach.

There are a lot of walking trails all over the island now and walkers everywhere.

There is a small restaurant/bar at La Cofete, cash only. Great food and drink in a very very remote place.

I see temperatures in Canaries are 40deg C this week.
