Oyster 2 & Avtex.

Hi, It's a while since I've been on here & things have changed a fair bit )

I'm looking for advice on how to receive more decent channels on my telly. My original setup used a 12V sky box connected to the TV via a scart lead. All good until the original telly (Avtex) developed a fault & I replaced this with another Avtex with a built in "Free to air" receiver. The Oyster 2 connects straight into the TV & there's no scart input so the Sky box was redundant. When I replaced this about 8 years ago there seemed to be a handful of good channels on the free to air system but the majority of the channels that were broadcasting have now stopped or have degenerated into casino, online shopping or quiz shows.

How do I go about getting a more sensible selection of channels to watch?

NB. One thing I've not tried is re-tuning. If this is an option I'll give it a go.

Thanks in advance, Dave.

Yes Dave, retune as more channels have been added and numbers altered. Nothing stays the same for long.
Should be a simple operation once you access the menu.

If you are receiving “free to air” that surely is not the satellite input as that is “Freesat”. Free to air is the normal terrestrial broadcasts that are received via an aerial not a satellite dish.

AFAIK Avtex boxes cone with two different decoders; Freesat or freeview built in, I believe the sets may require using different inputs. For Freesat we use the HDMI cable from our (Alden) dish, in order to operate the dish the TV must be turned on and then ensure the correct satellite has been selected on the Alden box which is then initiated by the TV saying “no satellite detected, check alignment” and then the dish starts.

For the terrestrial signal I think the normal aerial cable input is needed.

Obviously, we cannot use Freeview (terrestrial) here.

Free to air are any channels that are free of encryption and free of subscription.
They are on both terrestrial (via aerial), or satellite.
Freesat offers a large selection (approx 150) of the 200+ free to air channels.
eg C4HD is free to air on satellite, but it NOT on Freesat.
