Actually, I think it was the pressure was higher than the preset number (though I might be wrong on that). The pressure was still well within the capability of the tyre so I wasn't too worried about that. The tyres felt warm but that's maybe normal?

I think the pressure is 56 and the high limit is probably 65. If I remember correctly they were 68. These are all from memory so I may have it completely wrong!
What does your handbook say??

Bit concerned about your comment concerning tyre temperatures (or did you mean pressure! A rise in pressure of 15% is fine) Just how high were they?? To get seriously high on a decent the heat can only have come from the brakes so they must have been close to smoking!! On a long steep descent you should always be in as low a gear as will maintain your road speed to what you want. DONT brake continually, use the brakes positively to bring your speed down to lower than you want, then release them (so they can cool a bit) use the engine braking for as long as possible THEN re-apply them after your speed has built up. You do know you can set your tyre-pal system to give an alert once the tyre temps reach a point YOU programme in? Can’t remember what temp Tyre pal suggest to set the alarm at but I do remember thinking is was pretty high!

It says 'in the presence of traction+...' - does that mean I have to engage t+ (by pressing its button) and THEN press the downhill assist button?

HILL DESCENT CONTROL
On the steepest downhill slopes, in the presence of Traction+, it maintains the desired speed without the need to operate the brake. So you can focus on steering, without distractions. It is activated via a dedicated button on the dashboard.
Question is, has Traction+ been added as an option to your wagon ?

Steep downhill assist, Fiat Ducato
Yesterday when I was negotiating an 18% steep decline I was in 2nd gear with brakes. Maybe I should have been in 1st.
I'd to park up for a while to let my tyres cool down (Tyrepal said they were too high).
Today when negotiating a rather kinder 15% decline I pressed the button that I think is meant to assist in those situations, up to 30kph.
However, I didn't notice any difference. Nor did I see a light on the button, but to be honest I was too busy with bends etc.
How should it work and what should it feel like?
