I hadn’t “intended” to test mine, it just happened under the circumstances I explained.

As does mine but that works using a front facing radar which is a whole world away from some (unknown) app on a mobile phone!

I did sort of test mine once swinging into a tyre depot and approaching a low wall a little enthusiastically (but already braking) I got thrown into my seat belt because the car (Mazda 6) decided I should stop NOW!! So it certainly seems to work!

The handbook says it’s designed to “minimise damage in the event of an inevitable crash” which tends to suggest that it won’t actually help you avoid a crash, merely minimise the result of it. Still I have no intention of fully testing it “just in case”

It’s the DRIVER who should be watching the road ahead and NOT be relying on some bit of (suspect) technology, how would the police view it if you collided with the rear of another vehicle and said “well my phone didn’t tell me I was too close”?

OK rant over now, but, as someone who spent 30 years dealing with crashes I am horrified that anyone might rely on such a system rather than concentrating on the task in hand.

I recall from my police driving courses “Concentration is defined as the application of mind and body to a particular endeavour to the total exclusion of anything not relevant to that endeavour” 42 years without being involved in ANY crash seems to demonstrate that mantra works.

Apparently my Mazda has a crash avoidance system, never dared to test it.

raynipper My wife is the biggest distraction when I'm driving. Guaranteed when negotiating a new roundabout with seven exits I will be asked to look at some floral display or paint job.

Ray.

Car Safe Drive on Google Play Store type in carsafedrive and scroll down page. Motorhomers drive long distances every day on motorways. Car Safe Drive is an app from google play store beta version currently that will try to inform you if you are getting close to a vehicle on the road its basically a driver assist app on your phone. All you need is a cradle and android phone and it monitors vehicles ahead of you on the motorway and does have a lane control features that will be improved in the release version.

Great little App for all those motorhome users who do not have driver assist on their motorhome. Any extra pair of eyes on the road is a good thing even if it is a single electronic eye via your phone camera. Warns by putting a box around vehicle ahead of you and if the car in front breaks hard or you get very close it will attempt to warn you with different level sounds of alarm.

If you open the TomTom MyDrive Webpage and log into it with your account do you see your favourites listed there. 3rd Icon down on the left. If so then I think if you attach your unit to the PC and open MyDrive connect as well as MyDrive webpage and leave it on it may sync the favourites back to your unit. Thats what happens on the later units don't know if it does it with yours.

Thanks Doug, I'll give that a go when I've got somebody else's WiFi.
