Hi Penquin Looking at the Tomtom Site I get the impression that you bought the unit with a map, say Europe but if it is not possible to load it completely on the Tomtom unit then you have the option to select a Mapzone. There are a number of different Zones that are part of the whole. Some countries may appear on more than 1 Mapzone.. Then if necessary you can change the Zone. This was how it used to work and was introduced to deal with the situation where people had say the Full Europe Map then updates made it too big. It would not be reason blue to sell a product with a Large area mapped then tell customers that because we have made the map so big you can only have half or less and have to pay to have the whole area a gain. Then same principle applies should you want to say add the USA, Canada and Mexico map. Doug |

I have bought several second hand Garmin and TT units in France and Portugal that didn't include the UK but described on the box as Europe wide. Ray. |

You now just buy the zone you want I think (at around £45 a zone...) But it helps TT to sell more zones.... I wonder what will happen if the UK does ever leave the EU....... Will it be a case of one zone for in and another for countries OUTSIDE the EU ? |

Hi Penguin Its a long time since I dealt with Mapzones on an Old Tomtom I had. When I did it if you downloaded ALL the map zones to your computer, not just the 2 Zones you are interested in, then you did not need an Internet connection to the Tomtom Servers to do a change. You could just attach your TT unit to the PC boot up TT Home and do the swop. Hope that helps. It is frustrating that the older units are now struggling but they only have as little as 2GB or 4GB of internal memory and some with no means of adding extra memory. In many ways its just the same with Apple where you can't load some apps or Updates on phones that are not that old, or Windows PC users who have Win 98 and Vista for example with little or no support or updates. Just had ours mucked up by TT Had to update due to click possible issue and so chose to update map installed; Western Europe 3 which covered the Benelux countries, the U.K., France, Spain and Portugal as well as Italy, Andorra and Monico...... BIG MISTAKE. Suddenly no POI for France and no recent journeys. Tried to find hospital in Agen (I visit frequently) - nope it does not exist but I could have hospitals in Spain..... And so on... Rang TT today (40 minutes from France to U.K. ) turns out they have redone the map zones. I now need Western Europe 1 which includes France, U.K., Italy, Benelux countries and Germany (from memory) but NOT Spain, Portugal etc. So I can drive 2 hours South then have to stop at border, find an internet source, download to laptop, transfer to TT (which removes map of France). It is impossible to drive smoothly from France to Spain or vice versa. What knucklehead decided to put Spain and France into different zones ? It took me nearly 2 hours to sort it... all because someone changed the zones to an illogical grouping.... TT is beginning to really bug me now, so may well NOT continue with them - they have made so many muck ups to our device over the last 18 months AND THEY ADMIT THEIR MISTAKES. |

Sorry to hear that trek but not surprised After many, many tries I eventually managed to get it to connect to the laptop, loaded a smaller map, can't actually remember the zone number but it was UK, France, Spain and Portugal. That was a week ago and I've just spoken with him and it is still working faultlessly. Didn't dare try the route of using the full map on the unit again and I failed to see any way of loading onto sd card. . |

Ok contacted my mate and it turns out that the full map at v10.25 is now screwed up ! Exactly tha same as previous So got it back and reloaded just zone 4 At v10.25 So neither 10.22 or 10.25 versions will work with the full maps Even thought there is space left in the memory |

| jiwawa | I see my problem with the total map started on 11 March when I downloaded it. So any improvement would have been after that date. |

Aah, don’t remember off hand what it was Other than 1025 Upgraded it about 4 weeks ago ? ? Went back to its owner last week So will have to ask version and if its working |
