Pudsey_Bear I used a similar thing each side when I changed the Laikas tail lights to LED.

Plenty of examples on Utube. Search for Lighting LED upgrade. The resistors are easily obtainable on ebay, auto shops etc. They are high wattage and get hot so mount carefully.

Unfortunately, I did not pursue the matter further. I did not want to add any more additions to the car. It is a minor irritation but one I can live with. If you do a google search for Iveco Trailer Fault many white van man types have the same issue and you may get the required information.

Hope this has helped a little and hope you will hang around our forum which is a huge knowledge of information related to everything to do with motorhomes.

William Malkin Hi Stewart

Thanks for the excellent explanation of your issue which I think mirrors mine. The IVECO Service department here in Australia said that they had heard of this issue in Europe and that they thought the fix was to insert a resistor in the line to the car. All I need to do now is determine how to wire it up and what value resistor to insert. Have you fixed the problem for your set-up and if so do you what resistance the Iveco is expecting?

And that is exactly as it should be because a small trailer will have the resistance expected and set by Iveco. When the bulb failed it worked exactly as designed and informed you. The issue we face is a car does not the correct resistance and Iveco system sees a fault

Welcome to the forum. I also have an Iveco motorhome and tow a car behind. I suffer from the same issue as yourself, I have spoken to both the converter of the car and Iveco. Firstly, I assume the towcar is wired in such a way that the lights on the towcar operate at the same time as the motorhome? Iveco inform me that the system is set up for a "traditional trailer" containing traditional lighting circuits with traditional amount of bulbs. The system in our van is set to measure the resistance of these bulbs. If a bulb fails the resistance in the circuit increases and the system warns that you have a faulty bulb and indicates that by the warning indicator and the LCD message. Unfortunately, the resistance of the bulbs in the towcar is higher than expected, so it detects a fault. The company who modified my car, Towbars 2 Towcars who are the industry leaders in this type of technology in the UK offered to fit a resistor into the circuit to create the expected Iveco resistance and clear the issue. The problem I have is more complex in that I tow a Mercedes SLK which has a Can Bus wiring system, so all the voltages coming from the motorhome have to be stepped down through voltage reduction boxes and my lights are made up of 3 independent strips on each function, be it brakes, sides, indicators etc.
I have a more annoying issue in mine due to the indictor circuit also having a higher than expected resistance, the indicator warning and flashing on the dash is twice as fast to warn of the issue, however, the actual indicators still flash at the correct speed.
I don't see it as a huge issue and I am used to it. It was only a very minor issue in the huge challenge that Towbars 2 Towcars undertook to convert this type of car to tow, and did an excellent quality job.

I recently had issues with the wiring loom feeding the trailer ECU connection which had got wet and had corrosion. Iveco replaced the complete loom and ECU under warranty and when testing I explained the issue and Iveco confirmed what I have typed above.

As Kev says an Iveco forum may be a better bet than us lot. There are some MH owners on here with the Iveco chassis but not that many.

A couple of things occur that you could try to narrow down the problem.

1. Can you borrow a trailer board (something like this) to try in the towing socket on the Iveco. If that works ok then you know it's a problem with the car.

2. For a couple of pounds/dollars, it may be worth buying some standard filament bulbs to fit in the car. I'm wondering whether the LED lights are not drawing sufficient current for the Iveco to realise that they are working properly.

Pudsey_Bear Hi William, and welcome to MHF, have you tried the Iveco Forum for more focused info on this, perhaps even Youtube or Googling it.

I think I'd get the actual tow bar electrics checked though, it could be a simple error by the fitter, and on the towed car connections too of course.

IVECO Daily 50 Warning Light when Towing

Hi All. I'm new to this site having only picked up our IVECO Motorhome on Oct 15. I'm from Brisbane Queensland Australia and have a IVECO Daily 50 2015 model. We tow a small car behind the motor home and have the IVECO connected to to the car rear lights. When we are towing and turn the IVECO lights on I get a warning symbol on the dash which looks light a circular cog with an exclamation mark in the centre. I also get an advisory on the dash to check the trailer lights. This only happens when I turn the lights on and it remains on until I turn the vehicle off. I've heard that it may be a problem with LED lights on the towed vehicle and that some European operators have had the same problem and have fixed it. Any thought appreciated.
