The TOW BALL is what you seem to be referring to. It is about 2inches (50mm) in diameter and weighs a couple of pounds/1 kilo.
It is fastened to a TOW BAR by a couple of high tensile bolts (probably 14mm head-size?). These will be fairly easy to remove.
The tow bar is fastened to the CHASSIS, which is the main support for everything else. The geometry of the metal tow bar will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but could easily weigh 50lb/25kg. This is what has been referred to in earlier posts.
The electrics (which are needed to operate the lights on the trailer, or whatever) are probably also fastened to the tow bar: removing these MAY be a more complex job and a wrong move could affect your entire electrical system.
As previously stated, hitting something whilst reversing (or having someone come into the back of you) will result in less damage to your vehicle if you have a tow ball in situ.

It's just a hitch (the ball thingy!) as far as I know (which is not much admittedly when it comes to these things )
It depends on the manufacturer of the towbar but typically it would only be about 3 or 4 bolts holding it to the chassis rails on each side, so 6-8 bolts in total.
If the towbar is a full width bar then it will be quite weighty but sometimes you can remove the rear bar from the brackets and then remove the brackets from the chassis which makes life a little easier.
If you aren't using the bar then it may be worth removing it for the weight gain, even if you can't sell it. Having said that......if it is a full width bar then it's probably worth leaving it in place for the protection factor!
I took mine of my Bustner 747 2002 it was quite heavy when you are laying on your back trying to hold it up and undoing the last bolts.
Was easy enough to remove. Also removed the wiring
Ps if any wants it make me an offer.
Towing hitch - any second hand market for them?
My MH came with a towing hitch attached that we will never have any use for.
1) Is there a second hand market for these? If so I'll sell it.
2) Are they easy to take off or is it a garage jobbie?
3) Do they weigh much?
