robbosps Honda EU10i

Silent running. MAde by Honda and will last for years.

There are lots of copies out there now, but the Honda ( which weve hired ) would have to be it.

Ive hired the EU20i before, and would recommend this as having more clowt than the 10i .

As for banning NOISy gennies..........

But the honda ones are s good as silent.

The-Cookies we've got a little kipor 0.7 kw , we use the aires in winter, so its just to top up the battery's in the van and also bike battery's. solar's not much use in winter

its not excessively noisy either

Zepp We have 310w of solar and we do long winter trips abroad and I always take a small genny .

We got snowed in a aire in Northern France we would have been lost without the genny to top up the batteries even in Portugal we have used the genny due to daylight hours and bad weather plus very cold nights , its good to know you can top up the batteries with a genny if needed .

Never had to use a genny in the summer but solar is not much good in the winter months if you get bad weather .

BillCreer Having both a small Honda geny and a pair of 100w s/panels, that I fitted, I know that there is very little difference in weight between both solutions, The flexible panels might be lighter.

As I see it the benefits of a geny are as follows:-
Honda ones are easy to sell.
They retain good value and are probably as cost effective as any panels.
Quiet. I can't hear mine from inside my van.
They work in the winter and when it's cloudy.
They give you 240V.

Solar Ps:-
Fit and forget.
Cost nothing to run.
Silent.
Keeps both sets of batteries charged when in storage.

In short I can see benefits to both solutions and can see a need for both.

Drew Hi,

We have been running a 360w Kawasaki for the last 10 years and there is nothing to beat it. It is covered with a collapsible cardboard box when used and as yet we have had no complaints.

It is only used to recharge batteries as and when, most mornings, and we have always offered our neighbours the use of it.

As yet we have never received a complaint but have had many requests to borrow it to recharge batteries, even from those with Solar Panels.
