How do I undo this please?

I want to re-cover the handle just inside the habitation door because it looks a bit ruff.

At the back of the handle is this screw or whatever it is, anyone know how to undo it? It doesn't look like and Allen key, in the mitts it just looks like a round hole.

I will try with the Allen keys tomorrow, but a torx is a normal sort of screw driver isn´t it? can´t get a screw driver behind there.

(I hear Hans saying screw driver, he used to show off to me because he could say the German r and I can´t :grin2:)

I somehow don´t think it´s a torx, there is no sign of a starey edge and nobody has touched it since new so it is whatever it was to start with.

Torx screws look a lot like Allen keys, but they have odd bits sticking out, they come in assorted sizes and cannot be undone using a normal screw end, a cross head or an Allen Key.

If all else fails have a look at an assorted set of torx heads etc. Amazon has them from around £8 but cheap ones tend not to be very strong and often fail when needed.

My thoughts on that are based on enlarging the head to the maximum possible - it MIGHT be showing the edges inside BUT it is not clear.......

The leather arrived Yesterday, unfortunately I think it is about 1/4 of an inch too narrow to wrap around the handle.
I am reluctant to take the old cover off in case I can´t stretch the new enough to overlap the sides and if I can´t do it I´m wassanamed. :frown2:

I had a message out of the blue from somewhere and it said "Take the backing off and I bet it stretches0:)" so I did and it does so I will have a go tomorrow.

Do you want to know how I am getting on with it? I´ll show you anyway:grin2:

After heating the metal to an almost untouchable heat at the ends it came off reasonably easily, took a bit of hard pulling, but I managed in the end.

The new leather is wide enough :hello1:

Now I need to remove the old glue from the metal, it´s very tacky, how/what would you suggest is the easiest remover please?

Glue residue is tricky. Try petrol, alcohol or white spirit. Sometimes heat will help or just using your thumbs to roll it off. There are proprietary brands like sticky stuff remover. I haven't found one of those that works.

Here's one with good ratings. I'd be doubtful though: https://www.amazon.co.uk/XMykal-Sti...ds=sticky+stuff+remover&qid=1615112099&sr=8-5

Amazon.de will have similar.

If you find a way that works easily please let is know.

Ha ha ha, you would be surprised what I can find when I need a replacement Jan. I live in the 50s economy.
And my wife is tenacious like you at some creations.

OK, when I get time. What base van is it and I will pop into our local scrap yard.
