We also have new experiences quite often.
I'm having too many at the moment if someone would like to share them:frown2:

I just registered my Alditalk over the internet with the web cam. :smile2:
Spoke to someone who spoke good English :grin2:
My card will be started within the next 24 hours.
Do they all do this nowadays? No they can´t do because 3 didn't do that.

I remember registering the Polish orange a few years back and I had to give her my passport to copy.

Something else I learnt today yesterday, I didn't know Hans can use his German pass (I.D. Card), the size of a driving licence, instead of his passport, what I don't know is if that goes for outside the EU. I wish I could have one.😟
Something else the UK are against, I.D. cards they are so convenient for so many things just think no more carrying a book when you cross the chanel , just this small card that fits into your purse or wallet.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before because he only needs his pass when we go to Poland which is often, that's abroad. I have to carry my big passport with me ALL the time.

ID cards were mooted in the UK a while back. There was a swell of opinion that said it was against our human rights to be expected to identify ourselves all the time when we have done nothing wrong.

When you see these police programs on tv where the criminals are caught and it takes the police half a day to winkle out of them what there real name is it does make you think how much time would be saved if they carried id. But then, of course, it would not be their id that they carried! Perhaps we ought to microchip everyone?

I think it might be difficult to get a false ID, but just like false passports it can be done.
How many times do you have to tell companies who your Mothers aunt was (as a loose example >:)). With ID cards you just show your ID, the only time I have been asked to show ID here as you would in the UK was when the Police are making spot checks as that policeman did with me last week because he couldn´t make out why a German Numbered Motorhome had a GB sticker on and it was a Lefthand drive and even more surprising an old woman driving it  I just added that for fun.
I don't HAVE to have my passport all the time, I could take it to the nearest station when convenient, but I just make sure I have my handbag with me and that's easiest as we are often abroad. Unfortunately I am not entitled to a German Pass although I have a German driving licence, the policeman was puzzled over that one as well.

In the UK ID cards were available a few years ago for anybody who requested one. The scheme was stopped for reasons I am not entirely clear about but it was somethingg to do with security and the screening process not working properly.

Works in Germany, Poland, and every other European country I believe.
It´s the same as not changing to Euro, not going to drive on the right hand Side of the road, not going to do anything they do across the Chanel.:frown2:

South Africa has had ID books and now ID cards since way back in its murky past. But the benefit of having a unique ID number which is based on date of birth, gender, citizenship is great. You can't do anything without it in SA. So it facilitates security. That's not to say fraud and identity theft don't happen but it's a lot more reliable than an address as proof of who you are.
