raynipper Now after buggering about for weeks and getting absolutely no response or replies from the phone sellers in China "Cell-Plaza". I have decided to buy another one and give them as hot a roasting as I can on the feedback. It's the only way to get at them and I am sure I can resell the original HTC One M9 for £50 boxed as everything works except the Mail app. I am just so fed up going round in circles.

raynipper Trying another factory reset as the phone was doing all odd things all night.

raynipper Yes I have bought quite a few items from China without any complaints Peter. Phones as well.
This HTC phone I bought new last May 2018 here.

It was recommended for hard of hearing users by Computer Active. It was great until a few weeks ago when the AOL and Mail app went tits up.

It's still updating all the apps I have reinstalled onto it again and odd things are happening.

peribro I'm sorry it took so long to reinstall the apps etc Ray. I swapped over to a new phone a couple of weeks ago and the backup and restore function simply dropped them all in on to the new phone.

I know on some phones you have to set up the swipe gestures but I thought it was standard now on Android phones that you just swipe down. Maybe you're on an older Android version?

The phone I bought was this one

Absolutely brilliant for £100 or thereabouts. There's always a risk that Customs may query the package and charge duty and VAT but I've bought a lot of stuff directly from China and never had a problem yet.

Given that the batteries on most phones start to deteriorate after a couple of years and also given the speed of technical developments, I'm not going to spend £700 or £800 on a phone that I'm only going to keep for two or three years. Rather a £100 or £150 and then I don't feel bad about getting a new one!

raynipper But since doing the factory reset I can't swipe down to access the notifications any more. Bluddy phones.

raynipper Thanks Peter but now after hours of reinstalling apps and personal data it's exactly the same and the Mail App is just as useless. I wish I could just delete it.

raynipper Yep, sadly Peter I agree but have been putting off the inevitable. Now just have to find the time.

peribro At this point I think I'd probably do a factory reset Ray! If you've used the google backup service on the phone then it makes it a lot easier restoring all your apps once you start again.

raynipper Just found out another consequence of the last update on my phone. As well as totally screwing up the 'mail' app, it decided to stop the auto rotate option.

Now I am unable to 'send' any pics taken with the phone to my e-mail address.?

barryd I was talking mainly about the desktop App Outlook that comes with MS Office not that crappy freebee that replaced Hotmail. I agree, its crap.
