Hi,

Struggling to find anyone to make a Bespoke tow bar.

Any Suggestions around Manchester/NW/Cheshire welcome please (not TowTal).

Thank You

Type Approval Needed for anything as I understand registered in the UK after 1st April 2012.

But I think the loophole may be. Fitting a standard type approved tow bar to extensions/chassis extensions or reinforced brackets even of bespoke design may be possible.

Have a go at making one yourself I did. Cost about £30 for materials. As I recall
the drawings for fixing points are in the handbook.
I may still have my drawings "somewhere" bearing in mind mine was designed to tow a motorcycle trailer not a twin axle caravan it does not therefore resemble the Forth bridge as do some I have seen. The trailer has been on tow all over le continon with a 240Kg bmw on board.

If you research Sprinter Towbars you can get some general ideas and if you are lucky they show installation drawings so all yo need to do is increase the length of the side members.
You could perhaps do all of the prefabrication and take it the a welder for assembly. Dont forget all bolts must be 12/9 with lock nuts ( eight as I recall).
I found it easy to install, I just raised the Air assist and slid under the van then tapped into the rear light cluster for the socket, you will need a repeater beeper, mines under the bed.

Thank You.

I have thought about that. I can Braze/Silver Solder, I can do Auto Electrics (Better than some auto Electricians IMH(Humble)O. But, Despite having a Hobby Welding kit, I can't weld.

And, We only really want a tow bar for a bike rack, not wanting to drill or stress the fibreglass coachbuild.
