sky in the algarve

hi all

i have been in the algarve for about 4 months watching sky on a 1.2mm dish

i have been thinking of a maxview 85mm manual dish when i get home

but all say it is to small

anyway i have a 80mm dish here that was left behind by a film crew
so i thought i would give it a try

no signal strength meter so just put sky on signal strength almost immediately i had some white bars so just tuned the dish in a little more bingo a good picture it is overcast and raining today but the signal is great with no pixelation

so i t looks as if the bigger dishes are no longer needed down here

so i might think a little more about the maxview manual dish

ANY ONE HAVE ONE ARE THEY ANY GOOD ?

That's excellent news Barry, keep it going for a few days just to be sure it's not freak weather conditions.

I haven't had a Maxview manual dish for a few years now but the last one we had was excellent and very easy to align.

Help someone out when they're in trouble and they'll remember you when they're in trouble again.

I would be a bit suspicious that its down to freak atmospheric conditions as the satellite "footprint" stops waaaay short of the Algarve !!

Please keep us all posted as to whether you continue to get a decent signal on your small dish. I am off to Provence and Barcelona in September so would be rather pleased if I can access a bit of UK TV.

(What channels are you getting??)

Andy

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

I tend to look at sky with my MKI eyeballs.

Only when I want to look at Sky do I use the dish.

The thread title intrigued me, thinking there would be an interesting visual phenomenon.

Amazing how a lower case "s" led me astray.

Hey Ho!

hi all

pippin,... sorry i was never good at getting my writing across, the sky is fairly clear most nights with plenty of stars and satellites twinkling and a nice view of the sun and the moon in the mornings

gaspode,... i will certainly run it for a couple of days before lending it to a friend with a spare freesat box that i have

i will also be look around for a smaller say 60cm dish to try.

i also just realised that on my original post that i put down mm instead of cm hope that did not confuse you to much

andy,... the sky channels are not so good now down here now but plenty to watch even with a freeview box

no bbc ,itv.channel 4 or 5 .

i do get bbc and itv ect on a small box from a different satellite but at some stage the signal may be switched off

Exactly which Sky channels are you able to receive Barry?

Hi Barry, I presume you mean the small Icecrypt box. What size dish do you use please? I couldn't get mine to work with my Maxview 50in dish.
