I expect to take delivery of a new Swift Escape in a few months. The van will be fitted with parking sensors. I plan to fit a towbar and might sometimes want to carry a scooter rack or trailer. I am worried that the parking sensors will alarm when I engage reverse with a rack or trailer fitted. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can I disable the sensors by switching them off or removing the fuse? I am not getting much advice from the dealer. Many thanks

I have parking sensors on my van (that I put a towbar bike rack onto) and my car that I sometimes use with a trailer. Both systems can be turned off. The car one has to be done every time I engage reverse, the van one permanently. Should be easy for dealer to put a switch on the live feed to the system, especially if a sale depends on it.
It never ceases to amaze me how useless some dealers can be. I would tell the dealer that you won't be taking delivery (and paying) for the van until you get a suitable resolution. It really should be very basic stuff for any dealer. I suspect it's a lazy salesman who can't be bothered to talk to his technical people.
