Right, given that I am a self professed tech numpty I am hesitating to ask this question....

I believe that it is impossible to watch BBC iPlayer when abroad unless one has a VPN. I understand that this is a Virtual Private Network which basically bounces your internet 'footprint' around so it cannot be traced back to you (I think) and that I would need one to watch iPlayer if abroad.

So...if I am correct (big 'if')..

- How do I get one?
- Where do I get one?
- How much do they cost?
- Can I get one just for 2 months or between 2 dates?
- Are they easy to install and use?
- Any other unknowns that I should know that are unknown to me?

Thanks...I think

I use Nord VPN to listen to BBC sounds or watch iPlayer. It allows me to seem to be in the UK.

Can't remember what we pay but it's not a lot. I think there are free VPNs but for the BBC you need to be able to select a UK IP address. I don't know if free ones allow you to select country.

Others use different VPNs. They are good for security as well.

Brexiters. It's your sh1t now. Whatever happens nationally and internationally you own it. I wish you luck. I think you're going to need all you can get and then some. Friday 13th December 2019.

Thanks Al

So is it a question of downloading a program onto my laptop? What do I do then? How does it link in with my wifi?

For example do I log in to my wifi through the VPN program/app?

Yes, download one and then you just turn the VPN on and it does the rest for you.

There is a free one built in to Opera, but as far as I know you can't make it say you are in any particular country. A bit more investigation might prove me wrong on that. We have Nord VPN because we use it on a range of devices all every day and it's convenient.

I used to use one Barry recommended to watch 123 movies, I forget which one but it did cause problems if you then wanted to use the PC and hadn't turned it off again so ensure you only have it on as and when needed.

I just checked and it was Zen VPN, it's still in my extensions but turned off, it worked well when I did use it.

Did it cost Kev?

Ah OK - I just read your second message

All I want is to be able to access iPlayer to watch the 6 Nations rugby when I am in Spain. I'm not fussed about other stuff tbh but i m aware that you cant access iPlayer abroad.
