Alan you were quite right in your first question and I apologise for my flippant responses.

The trouble with having an imaginary friend is that you also have to imagine a consistent back story.
Does "this friend" use a vpn or does he think they draw attention to you.

So I've tripped over my own lie at the very first hurdle..................I'd be useless as a politician.

Lesson.......... when you've had a few drinks and you think you're making quick and amusing responses.......stop....otherwise you will only be left with imaginary friends

Thanks Peter. I wasn't at all annoyed. Just unable to see that I'd missed the mention of VPN use.

Hi CMJ, this is quite a long thread so excuse me if this as been covered.
I returned from 3 months in Spain yesterday and whilst there I used my iPad and laptop to tether to my phone. The Sim Card I use is from Sky who allow free content downloads when using the Sky app to watch their content. The sky App does not broadcast BBC so I used the BBC iPlayer on my laptop and iPad to stream from the iPlayer. Downside here is you are then using up your data with the iPlayer.

Tethering to the mobile negates the requirement for a VPN although when I tried this from the mobile, iPlayer recognised I was outside the UK and same with the sky app and blocked content. Sky also allow you to roll over data so I was fortunate enough to have banked 60GB before we left the UK.

Not trying to promote sky but it worked great for me whilst we were away and never needed a VPN.

I hope someone will soon help me because I am now completely buggered, I am plugged directly into my Internet box, the iPad canīt find my WLAN and neither can my firestick I think I must have deleted it from my Network Preferences when I removed what I though was the VPN. I am in a complete mess.

Tell us about the VPN Jan. How was it installed?

Usually on your computer, phone or tablet a VPN is an app which you can switch on and off. Likewise those provided in browsers can be switched on and off. I've never seen my VPN in my network preferences and would not have the least idea how to put it there.

Tell us more if you can.

Thanks for this I think...I didn't understand virtually anything you said tbh. My fault - bit of a dinosaur

I don't have Sky at home except through Now TV and then just the sport channels.

With all the conflicting advice received across this thread and with no guarantees that anything would work I'll probably not bother getting a VPN now. I only wanted it for the 6N rugby so I'll either watch that in a bar; or find a local TV channel to watch it as I'm not worried by not having English commentary tbh; or even use a dodgy streaming channel.

Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. —Greg King

I have been on to Apple, the VPN is now deleted from all devices, but I have managed to delete my normal Wifi network completely. I have plugged directly into the Router from the Mac, that's how I am using the Mac now, nothing else works. The Apple chap says to get in touch with Telecom which I am about to do now and hopefully they will put me back on.

It doesn't matter what I put in the Wifi Network, it doesn't recognise it.

Which one of those three networks on the left is your router? I presume the bottom one as its got the strongest signal? On the second photo though there is no network name. When you tap the appropriate network on the left it should appear in the network name box on the right. Is that what you are doing?

The VPN should not have removed your wifi settings though. Can your phone connect to the wifi?
