Shutting down the iPad

I can´t shut it down by holding down the button, Siri pops up every time, I have to go into settings to turn it off and when I did that the last time I couldn´t turn it on again only by plugging it into the mains.
Before I contact Apple does anyone have any ideas what's up please?

I'm Jan

Jan,

Under the protection of “There is no such thing as a stupid question”, which button are you holding down?

I’m using an iPad at this moment.

John

Don't you have a "Start" button to switch it off Jan? ............................... Weird.

With this one (IOS 10.3.3), the button on the "top" side i.e. opposite the charging socket, I simply press it briefly then release and it shuts down at once.

I can turn it off using the onscreen "slide to turn off" option, but the top button is much quicker.

I have to say I am NOT an iPad expert, far from it, more of a numpty blindly trying to use it and with a couple of idiot guide books on the coffee table "just in case" !

Any typo that I make means the errorists win.

Any comments above are only MY OPINION and should be read as that.

Numpty or not you’re quite right as far as the power off button goes.

I was tempted to ask the same question as John but chickened out.

Ray.
iPads have sleep/awake button to end a session, a short press puts it into sleep mode. An extended press displays the touch screen ‘slide off’ option. Quite simple really.

Jan, if yours is still frozen, holding the sleep button and pressing the circular home button on the front screen simultaneously for up to ten seconds can do a soft reset to get it unfrozen.

I think Jan you are using the main on /off button at the bottom of the I pad to switch off and on

The on/off button is at the top right hand side to power off and again to power on

That closes the ipad .

the bottom ( round) button puts it on hold rather than powering it down

I haven´t had one email to say anyone has answered me, I´ll be back when the mouse on the desktop has charged up, I find it much easier than fiddling with the iPad
