After resetting Apple mac to factory settings.

I reset it because I thought I would sell it then decided to give it to Heike.
Now I have got into a right muddle because I tried resetting it with my Apple password (email address) and every password I try it tells me its wrong.

I do have an external backup for my other Apple, can I use the backup from that to restore the second one?

Hi Jan
I think you need to get into Apple ID or I tunes to sort out your problem.
You should have an Apple ID master password so you can say it is no longer your computer and someone else can open an apple account and take over your device.

Can't do a thing with it now, I think I have buggered it altogether, I have a question mark in the middle of the screen on startup, tried the R + control key business, but then it tries to find the internet and goes no further. Must find an Apple store to get it fixed. Heike's son is in IT, but like most only deals with Windows so don't think he can help. Heyho just another addition to my bad luck.

I didn't think they would help Drew, but I told a fib to get through to them and spoke to a lovely young man in Albania and he has put me right by using the iPhone and the camera on the screen, it is now loading the newest version Catalina and will be ready in 14 minutes.
I am so happy.

Next to transfer files

All the files from Heike´s Windows 7 computer are on a WD passport external hard drive.
How do I transfer these files to the Apple, I can´t find a YouTube instruction. Anyone know how please.

I sent her a WhatsApp with a picture of her brand new screen, she loves the picture and is thrilled I was able to connect it with the help of Apple support. Super people, even when I told him I had told a fib to get through to him he helped me without question.

Dunno about Apple Jan but I used an external hard drive as a back up and basically drag and drop new files to it and then onto another old computer as a further back up.

Ray.
