The WD drive will just be plug and play. Let Heike plug it in she can just drag the files where she wants them.

Have you made a note of any passwords and user names you used to get in?

Oh yes, I have taken a photo of the ones I needed to put in, there are a few more she can do later, but as I donīt think she will be buying apps or anything from iTunes etc. she probably wont need anymore.
I will start a list for her now.

I forgot to mention that you will find Migration Assistant in:

Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant.

I was going to look at it again today, but Heikes son has volunteered to do it and change her email password which she has forgotten meaning she can't use her email until she has a password.

Once Catalina is installed - First create a new administrator user (in System Preferences - Users & Groups) for the new user. Then log into that user. That way you can delete the old profile which will have your Apple ID. The new user can create their own Apple ID, if they don't have one already. If they have one just use that.

Then plug the western digital drive in and move all the files to the users folders where they should go - photos in the Pictures folder etc.

Then I would strongly urge erasing the western digital drive using Disk Utility as Mac format and using it as a Time Machine backup. That's if it is of a suitable capacity to hold all the files (usually the same as the hard drive inside the Mac is ok, but you can go smaller or larger).

Thank you for that super explanation, but it's all done no, Heikes son is in IT and has now finished the job.

It seems a long time since we heard anything from you Bill, are you back in Tasmania?
