Malwarebytes

I have just used the Malwarebytes on the Acer, at this moment it is quarantining 1975 identified threats

My question is, how come, I donīt use the Acer very often, are they trying to persuade me I need to upgrade, which I wonīt?

I only put it on today to see if there were any updates, there was one so thought Iīd use Malwarebytes the CCleaner and then backup.

CCleaner has done a bunk, just disappeared off the screen short cuts completely.

Ccleaner IMO is a bit of a snake oil treatment but malwarebytes is useful. You don't need the paid for version really either. Thats a lot of infections Jan but I've seen worse. If you look at the results probably all of them or most of them will be adware type pups (potentially unwanted programs) rather than malicious viruses. Just let it do its thing and remove them

Thanks Barry.

Could it be anything to do with the YTD downloader, since I installed it Malware seems to find a lot of puppies in my machine

Don't want to worry you, but a recent update to CCleaner was stuffed with malware:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/0...ner_downloads/

Only affected versions downloaded between Aug 15th and Sept 12th, so if you downloaded it in the last couple of days then ignore what I've just said.

But, as @barryd says - CCleaner is rarely of much real benefit to most users.

Malwarebytes is pretty good provided you get it from a known good source (there are loads of decoy versions about), and as Barry says: the errors it throws up are often bloated by things that look suspicious rather than things that are suspicious, so it's not unusual to get a high number of results.

I concur and yes Jan all this free stuff people download is free for a reason. Sometimes it's just to target adds but often these things are full of malware or browser hijackers etc.

Don't get me wrong I download free stuff but I've attended loads of sites where people have run into issues because of them and ytd is definatley one of them

Your doing the right thing though

Malwarebytes is one of the better programmes for a computer, Mac or Micros**t there is no need for the paid version.
