Cheap Tracker

Although I am not required by my insurance company to have a tracker installed (thank goodness after looking at the prices of the companies they use) I bought a £12.89 unit off Ebay.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292400215553

Just been testing it and it works quite well, send a text (Giffgaff sim on 2g) and it replies showing where it is on google maps on my android and PC, app is also available for Iphone.
Also has a ring fence system so you will be informed if it moves 20mtrs from where you left it.

I have an alarm fitted, Disclock on the steering wheel, Fiamma lock on the hab door and it is parked up the side of my house with the drives door 6" from the wall so no access from that side and no key lock on the passenger side

Recently bought a CCTV system which I still have to put up but one camera will be installed looking down the drive where the MH is parked, there is normally one of our cars parked on the drive behind the MH.

Don't think I can do anymore.

That looks very interesting - do you wire it into the 12v system? Will it work in Europe?

I guess ignorance is bliss as we left our motorhome open for most of the time it was parked at our house and my tool shed is always open. Bliss.!!!!

I haven't fitted into the van yet but will connect it to the hab battery, It uses GPS and a phone sim card, I used Giffgaff so yes it will work in Europe.
You just ring the tracker then hang up, takes about 20s then you get a text giving you its position which shows on Google Mapsvia the text or app.

The sim card I put in I just loaded it with £10 credit and as being a customer already got an extra £5 for passing on a sim, texts cost 5p in EU so should last quite some time.

Just a thought Barry. Looking at your e-bay link it show various others at about half the price, or £6.97 with sound. Was there a reason you discounted these?

The cheapest is not necessarily the bestist.
I looked at reviews for this one and others of the same type but with different branding so for the cost of a decent bottle of wine I gave it a punt.

I tested it in my Conservatory, it only took a few seconds to find the GPS signal, my Satnav takes a couple of minutes, google earth showed it to be about a metre in front of me.
It does use the 2g network which O2/Giffgaff still use, do you still have 2g in France?

Yes Barry, if I'm lucky.
My 4G phone only shows 4G in big cities and here near my home I'm lucky to get 2 bars of 2G.

I have been leaving cars, vans and garage open for years, yes one day some scrote will take advantage, I may re-evaluate that when we move house in a couple of weeks.
