Sky TI Silverline Body panel rattle

Anyone with a sky Ti 2015 > with a difficult to pin down roof area rattle?

We noticed on our new 2016 van that we had a fair rattle coming from above the passengers head. Checked all the usual suspects but no cure!

W then noticed the rattle only happened at or above 55-60 mph and got worse with more speed. It was aerodynamic!

The van has abs plastic styling trim panels, one each side. The right hand side =no noise. left hand side rattled like blazes the faster you drove,

I had my son drive the van whilst I tried to pin down the source and noticed when I put my hand onto the wall inside the 1st cupboard I could actually feel the rattle. The panel inside the cupboard is solid so it could not be anything inside it. This narrowed it down to the exterior trim / abs panel / molding which was vibrating at speed. Norm over 55 ish.

The test / cure..... I gently opened up the gap between the panel and the vans side body. There is around a 3 mm gap all around panel to bodywork. So I gently prized open this gap at where I thought I felt the rattle on the inside trim in the c/board and inserted a cardboard 'shim'. Went off and tested this wee adjustment and bingo.. No rattle. Eureka. The permanent fix was to insert a small bead of Sika either side of where the card shim was. About 30 mm or so either side of it. Left this till next day to dry out then I removed the card shim.

Testing again revealed no rattle at any eermmm speed. lets just say I took it up a bit faster than 70..

Sorted. And neat and tidy with it. I did the same on the other side too. just in case it came out in sympathy.

I tell you this in case anyone has the same van and has the same rattle. it was a pig to find.

Aerodynamic vibration rattle? A new one for me that was..

All the best people.

Nice simple cure, very satisfying, our self build had similar on the overcab shelf, more of a knock though, but I never figured it out, neither has the new owner
