I wonder how many of their marital problems were due to her addiction to ethanol and nicotine....

it is being said that both of them had affairs, hardly surprising, but he was good with the camera IMO, although of course his pictures now have a "dated" appearance...

Soft picture of a very mixed up young Royal...... who was also part of a marriage where affairs were involved .......

Obviously he was able to take high quality pictures of Royalty - Margaret opened the doors for him.....

At the time, there was a lot of suspicion, if that is the right word, that he was just social climbing and she was 'desperate' to find a husband that had the stamp of approval. Sad isn't it when true love is sacrificed on the altar of propriety? Ditto with Prince Charles.

Taking beautiful photos in those days was a lot more PT than it is now!

Her original suitor, Group Captain Peter Townsend was frequently said to have been rejected by the "Establishment" as he was a divorcee, however letters written in 1955 disprove that and strongly suggest that she was simply "not sure of her love for him".....

Daily Telegraph report of the letters

That report bears reading IMO, it may reflect the truth, we will never know, but rumours will always abound and often with something to initiate them.....

No smoke without fire... as the saying goes. Very interesting.

Despite the report saying she was making decisions about her own destiny, any woman, especially one having led her sheltered but very public existence in those times, would think twice about marrying such a man with all his baggage. Especially seeing divorce would never have been the easy out it became not many years later. Whatever, I believe she didn't have a very fulfilling life in many ways. And the drink and fags wouldn't have made it any better!
