Hi Martin.

There's much discussion, but the general rule of thumb is 40-60,000 miles or 4-5 years, whichever comes sooner. I left my last van until 5 years and found that although the cam belt was fine the water pump was stiff.... So I was lucky.

Don't just change the belt, but a full kit that includes the belt, water pump, seals, gaskets, pulleys, and tensioners. My view is that anything less is false economy.

Or drive a van like my Fiat with no cambelt (chain) and save that expense every 5 years

Europe. We're not out till we're out. Until then we're still in. Mind you out is looking a lot like in but with less benefits!!!
