Fiat Mizar motorhome engine management light

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help. I've got a Fiat Mizar , based on a Ducati maxi, 2.3 let 130 Bhp, 07 reg, engine management light on, local garage who cannot get van in it came & plugged diagnostic computer in & says 2nd cooling fan not working. Van runs fine & have been out in it, no issues, 1st fan runs fine. Local Fiat garage very busy says try 'relay' in engine fuse box, which relay, there are two (apparently) none of them are marked. A photo would be handy, I can't get at fan wire to check it's ok, any other thoughts.

Fiat agents may be able to give help, but it will come at a cost - their computer can often pick up things that others cannot and they should cancel the warning so that they can ensure the fault still exists.

It is an awkward problem but a DIYer may find it hard to know how to get at such things. The Haines Manual may be able to help you find out how to get to the possibly broken fan.

It could of course, be an electrical fault, or a control fault, or a mechanical fault - there is no easy way to tell what is causing the issue without the specialist knowledge that working on such vehicles every day brings. That is why I suggested the Fiat dealer.

It may be that there is a local commercial van type establishment that could help - we have used them in the past as their speed of service is phenomenal.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

"The engine control unit consists of two fans operated by the engine management unit in accordance with parameters supplied by the engine coolant sensor.

The activation of the fans is operated by two dedicated relays, located in the engine compartment junction unit.

The supply lines for the fans are protected by two dedicated fuses also located in the engine compartment junction unit."

The engine cooling packet is attached. Sorry the 'print' to pdf is not great and the schematic is not very clear. Any questions ask and I will look at the source drawing.

I presume the common engine sensor is telling the ECU that both fans are required and the ECU senses that the second one is not operating.

I can open it with my laptop, android phone and tablet so sorry I cannot explain why you cannot open it. It loads to the forum from my laptop as a pdf attachment apparently with no problems. Still nothing really surprises me with regards to these type of things. If there is a problem I am happy to send it to an email address sent to me by PM.

Steve was only reading a letter yesterday in the MMM February 2020 magazine regarding fans on Ducato vans. Cannot find the letter on line to reproduce so took a photo of it. Hope you can read it ok, loads of good info in the reply.
