Fridge/electrical problem auto trail scout SE 2007

We are on our 4th week of a trip around Europe in our motor home and have been having some issues with the electrics and the fridge freezer. We are hoping that someone may be able to help us resolve the problems. The fridge freezer doesn’t work off the vehicle battery, something was tripping the electrics so we isolated the circuit which the fridge is on. The freezer compartment will work off the gas but the fridge won’t. We’d appreciate any advice that anyone can give on the issue. Kind regards Hans and Claire (in Lucca Italy) x

Are you saying the fridge was working correctly before the 12 volt problems?

Rather strange the freezer is working correctly but the fridge area isn't, both elements work from the same cooling system.

Yes they were both working before, the fridge is definitely off, the freezer compartment works on the gas, could it be a fault with the fridge?

Do you have a thermistor in the fridge part, it looks like a chocolate block clipped to the fins with two small wire attached.

You can check if the thermistor is working by following the procedure below.

Need to do an ohms reading. From inside of the fridge remove the thermisor from the fins and unplug the wires. With a VOM set it on Ohms, touch the wires with the probes/ does not matter which probe to wire/ hold the bulb end of the thermister between your fingers, your reading should stat at about 7000 Ohms. Stick the bulb end of the thermister in a glass of ice water, reading should start climbing and go to about 22000 Ohms. If this happens the thermistor is good and you need to look elsewhere. If it does not test out you need to replace the thermistor. The thermistor is a thermostat that controls the heat source that makes the fridge cool.

Should have asked earlier, what make, model and year is the fridge?

OK and sorry, I wrongly assumed it to be a Dometic.
I have zero knowledge of the Thetford product and no idea as to its workings, so there is a strong possibility that my originals comments have absolutely no substance.

Apologies.

What part of France are you currently in ? It may be possible to locate a Thetford dealer who could advise, we use a Thetford/Dometic agent near Villeneuve sur Lot but that will probably not help you.

Let us know roughly where you are / intend to be and I will see if I can locate someone that could help.

Edit sorry, just reread and found that you are in Italy, I will see if I can find a link...

Hope that helps

Any comments above are only MY OPINION and should be read as that.
