I bet this resonates with a few!!

I cannot lay claim to this as it was Pinched from another forum, but thought it worth sharing!

I am confused!

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.

I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class and an ally of big business.

I was baptized a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel.

I am old, which makes me useless.

I think and I reason, therefore, I doubt much that the mainstream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without student loan debts and little or no debt, which makes me some kind of an odd underachiever.

I believe in the defence and protection of my country and I honour those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right wing-militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me, because I'm just not sure who the hell I am anymore!

Funny but itís all just taken place over the last 7 or 8 years.

Prior to which I had no confusion or delusions about myself.

As if all this nonsense wasnít enough to deal with.
Now Iím not even sure which toilet to go into!

Think I'll just go in my pants.

Andy

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, itís in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

I guess being such a multicultural society now there is always someone being offended by some other group. We have lost the English patriotism and even showing the flag of St. George we run the risk of annoying someone. It's a very delicate path we try to tread but it obviously is not working.

Unless you are happy to be labelled

Racist , islambaphobic

Not as yet anti_ semitic

But Iím sure it will come

But hey

I fight my corner

And in truth do I really care about what people on here think?

Once I would have been devastated

Now Iím just mildly interested

It passes time in the day

"And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

The last verse from a fine poem named Desiderata by Max Ehrmann.

Desiderata

GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Viv, like me would have assumed you all know the Desiderata, Geoff

A line of meaning for everyone

For me

You are a child of the universe......you have a right to be here

For all my childhood I was told in not so many words

I didnít have a right to be here

Youíre an unwanted kid , but we take care of you , be grateful

And all these years later shades remain

I was a successful well educated person in the end

I raised a family with the same guy

I loved poetry

But often even now I repeat

You are a child of the universe you have a right to be here

And I pray I passed that to my kids

And if I donít

Well Albert has

It was probably brought to a wide audience of my generation in 1972 when it was released as a single record by Les Crane. It got to number 7 in the charts and spent 14 weeks in total in the top selling records.

It probably got a lot of airplay at the time as it was unusual for a Ďhit singleí but as Alda says a line of meaning for everyone. Still once in a while gets a play on radio.

In my day it was almost a requirement to have a copy hanging in the downstairs loo

Wherever you went , there it was

Do anyone else recall that?

Not too sure about the toilet thing, but most people had a poster of it on their bedroom wall (me included!)
