Recommendations for european breakdown cover?

Hi all,
we have breakdown with our MHF insurance but unfortunately i'm not impressed since it became DAS. I wont go into boring details but i'm now looking for a better service. Our situation is a bit messy with hubby being a wheelchair user, so i'm looking for any good experiences. we go to europe for 4 weeks twice a year and would like to take out some extra cover.

hope you all can help
Ruth

Hi Ruth,

I was wondering when your MHF insurance expires, as many other well known MH insurers contain automatic European breakdown cover included in the premium?

ADAC if they are still taking membership from brits. Still a Mutual (remember them) run for the benefit of members not shareholders or the bank. Very good value.

Have read that they will renew existing UK customers but won’t take new business.

There are a few companies that spring to mind that you could try :

1.) Shield Total Insurance
2.) EuroBreakdown which is backed by Allianz Assist
3.) Nova Direct

We had DAS help us return our MH last summer (read my previous threads) and IMO they were first class - even paid my hotel at Calais on the return which we weren't covered for.

My main criticism of them would be they never called me back, but we were towed to a campsite so weren't to bothered. They called on the day of departure and we got home safely with an Avis hire car. MH returned about 4 weeks later, again comms not great but in the grand scheme of things it was no big shake.

If you have a Nationwide Flexplus account pan European breakdown cover is included (along with holiday insurance, health cover etc)

There is a cost to running the account, it amounts to £160 a year, which if you look at it as an insurance premium for holiday AND breakdown cover is damn good value!

Andy

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if it’s in a caravan!) I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

Just recently had flat battery on a Spanish campsite and thru my Peuogot cover the breakdown was covered by the AA European breakdown and they attended in 1 hour. So I will consider looking at which provider uses them as backup when this runs out next year.
