Ford Motorhomes and Aviva (Comfort)

I received this letter today from Comfort Insurance. I'm a bit miffed because a. I've got an A class with no Ford doors or door locks, and b. my research suggests that cat 6 trackers are fairly simple to disable, and AVIVA don't care what tracker is fitted as long as it is a minimum of Thatcham Cat. 6.

Can anyone suggest other brokers who don't require a tracker?

I changed my motorhome in January to a Ford Transit based Chausson and was informed by Comfort - who were my insurers at the time - that I would need to have a tracker fitted to ensure continuity of policy. I took out a new policy with another insurer and told Comfort where to stick it. It's not specifically Comfort who are at fault but the underwriters, Aviva - who in a curious twist are now the insurer of my Ford Kuga car as they came up with the best priced policy at renewal. Some other insurers will also insist on trackers but usually when the vehicle value is well over £50k.

Is it just ford ?

We are fiat based , with comfort, no tracker required but they did require strike back or similar alarm

Must be a reason I guess

We have a Hymer Exsis i 578 (Fiat based) insured with Comfort - just renewed with them a few weeks ago. No requirement for a tracker. I would contact them and tell them that even though your van is Ford based there are no "Ford doors" on it and that security is just the same a Fiat based i Exsis!

I've already told them that, but they weren't interested. They just said if it's registered as a Ford it won't be insured without a tracker. What annoys me as much as Ford's incompetence in producing a vehicle so easily stolen, is that all the research I've done so far suggests trackers, especially Cat 6 which are acceptable to Aviva, are nearly as easy to overcome as Ford's security. So they want me to spend approx £250 - £350, together with another £400 subscription for something that's not going to stop a determined thief.

When we were parked at the aire in Belén, Lisbon, a few years ago there was an attempt to enter several vans. Our Ford was one that defeated them. One they entered was a Fiat.

Just sayin', as Barry would say!

No it isn't. Fiat's engine immobiliser can't be manipulated or overridden at all easily. Fords can be started without any key at all in around 15-20 seconds using a small device in common circulation which plugs into the diagnostic socket and fools the vehicle into believing an authorised key is being used.
