Do I need my MiFi?

Last trip to EU I had an O2 sim with data in my phone, also a Three sim in the mifi. On occasion I'd use the mifi when smartphone signal wasn't so hot.

There's a great deal on Vodafone ATM and I thought I might get that to use in the mifi to replace my plusnet broadband at home (which comes through the phone line n isn't all that great.) At least with the mifi I'd be able to take my broadband with me instead of paying for 2 lots.

However, if I have the SIM in the mifi I wouldn't have data on my phone, unless I took the mifi (and OTG charger) with me.

What are the disadvantages, if any, of putting the SIM in the phone rather than the mifi? I can tether my laptop if necessary, tho I hardly ever use it when away.

I'm so used to having WiFi for my phone as well as mobile data when away from home - I feel I might be missing something.

One is that you can put the mifi where you get the best signal, whether it be above the window in the toilet or on the dashboard and sit where ever you want.

Good thinking - that might be especially useful in the house. However, I do use data when out n about so I'd either have to take the mifi with me or swap the SIM into the phone.

Or keep up a phone-specific contract...

That's true but the battery's not great so you also need a n OTG charger. Before you know it you look deformed with all the gear in your pockets!
