Osmand and Osmand plus

Hi Mags

If you have an Android phone or preferably, a tablet, have a look at Osmand and Osmand Plus on Google Play. Osmand is free and the Plus version is £2.99 which gives you access to all the maps of the world. Download the maps you need and when using, there are no roaming charges

Can be used offline for Satnav or just for enjoying looking at maps.

No doubt @Morphology will be along to advise you shortly, but have a look on YouTube, particularly tutorials by Bart Eisenberg:

A brilliant piece of software. I use all the time for my satnav.

Ha! In addition to the completely brilliant and indespensable Osmand+, I use an app on my phone called Bubbler GPS Pro, which is linked to an online service called Spotwalla.

Bubbler records GPS locations as I move about and, whenever I have an Internet connection, posts them to Spotwalla.

I use it mainly so that friends and family can share my adventures. For example, here's the tip I made to Iceland in April/May this year:

Edit: the Osmand website has a pretty good description of how to install and use the Trip Recording plugin: http://osmand.net/features?id=trip-recording-plugin

>Polarsteps< is another good tracking App. I have used for three of my trips so far and rather like it. See <https://forums.motorhomefacts.com/130...ml#post2650298 and my further comments on page 2.

Version 2.7. of Osmand+ has just been released, and the GPX tracking plugin can now be set to split a captured GPX track at particular time or distance intervals, and also tracks altitude etc.

I don't know if this is good or creepy, but if you have a Google account and have location history turned on it will keep track of all your movements. You can click on any day and see where you have been. And on a world map it will show red spots on all the main locations.

With free roaming in the EU now we used Google search on our recent trip to find camp sites. It is the easiest and most inclusive program we found. You also get instant access to reviews, websites, etc. Then just click for directions. I still wish they would bring Autoroute back. We also still use it.

If you have questions about touring, living, driving, etc in Italy message me.
