4G is it time yet or shall I wait?

To those out there with 4G equipment. I know that it has been available in someplaces for nearly 4 years now but how widespread is it in Europe? Did you upgrade from 3G and if so was it worth it? I don't mean for the speed but for the number of places you can get it?

I'm not aware 4G is available anywhere that 3G wasn't yet, but my experience is limited to Vodafone. It is certainly not yet the panacea to fast internet in the big open spaces on the continent. Nice when you can get it, though.

Personally I can't see any reason to upgrade to 4G unless you wanted a different phone for other reasons. 4G tariffs can give you more data per .

There are two completely different 4G systems. EE are using the 1900Mhz system whereas the more efficient 800Mhz system is still to fully rolled out. 4G (800Mhz) in the UK should be widely by the end of 2014.
Most of Europe will use the 800Mhz system, but it is possible that the USA may keep to 1900Mhz (The US never conform).
If you intend to buy a 4G phone, make sure that it is compatible with both systems otherwise roaming may not be possible.

it would be nice if 3G was widespread - there are still a lot of locations that aren't covered by 3G despite them not being that rural.

I would suspect that the 4G rollout will be as equally as patchy as 3G has been and personally I'm happy to wait a while longer and hook into wi-fi hotspots whenever possible
