Not wishing to hijack yesterdays poll on SatNav I thought I'd start a new thread to pass on a couple of tips I recently discovered with my TomTom satnav.
I use mine all the time - primarily because it comes with traffic planning and safety camera warnings.
But to get the traffic planning, you need to have specified a route for it to check. As a lot of the routes I take are the same day to day, I wanted to turn the voice off, but not the sound because this disactivated the warnings for the cameras.
On emailing TomTom, I discovered you can download a 'silent' voice, so you can set your route and get directions, but no voice. This is, for me, a great feature
Also, on my TomTom, in the safety preferences, you can set the TomTom to 'beep' at you when you are drifting (3 or 4 miles per hour) above the speed limit set for the road - doesn't work on every road, because the maps don't have the speed limit on every road, but very useful as a double check when in new territory.
