Asking the question of Google it replies...

To load the POIs to your device:
Connect the device to your computer.
Open POI Loader.
Click Next when your device has been detected.
Select Install new custom POIs onto your device.
Click Next.
Click Browse.
Select the folder where the customer POI files are stored.
Click OK.

...but personally I'd still check with Garmin.

Hmm. what I also need to be able to do is add them on the fly rather than put them on the puter then download them, I can do that on the TT I had.

My reasoning for wanting a standalone is the phone gets quite hot when using it as a sat nag, but it has the advantage of having up to the minute traffic data.

This was the model I had which was ultra reliable, you can still find them but considering the age a bit pricey.
