Help! TomTom touch screen not responding

My fault, dropped it on the tarmac!

I've found the official TT repair here https://www.tomtomrepairteam.co.uk/s...m-go-1005.html

But wondered if there was any alternative. It's a Go 1005 Camper. And I have to have it before 18th!

What did you have in mind Jean, as an example?

Sorry, I meant does anyone else repair or can you get a screen online? I'm up to my eyes so haven't had a chance to properly look.

Can you go through the screen recalibration Jean? Usually hard pressing one or other corner when booting up.

Stopped for coffee on way to Dunfanaghy n had a rummage round the internet.

That link you gave Ray says to create a cal.txt file but since you can't now see folders on the TT I don't think that would work.

My calibration data is (wait for it!)
40928 -2076 -389596 138 38875 -784436 65536

And the OS is 2663383

I tried pressing in the corner when starting up - no good.

I'm not getting any response to a press, wrong or right so I think it's a TT repair....

I did find this but I think by the time I buy a screen n digitiser I'd probably be as well to send to TT.

Are you on wildcamping.co.uk Jean? There used to be a bloke on there called Fairytooth that repaired TomToms. Dunno if he is still around but he was a bit of a whizz.

TT told us that our GO 1005 is too old to repair - they have a limit of around three years before they declare it too old - that is also what they use for their "lifetime maps" three to five years max.

So, beware they may not be helpful.....

But Tory will offer you a discount of a new one such as the GO TRUCK version - we had one and it is rubbish..... it boils not even find it's way to London from Romsey and then turned a 4 hour journey in France into a 13 hour marathon through parts of France we did not know existed.

That one went back when we found the fault in our GO 1005 was entirely due to them not applying what we had paid for.....

So, treat with care....

Remember Jo Cox and what she stood for.

Any comments above are only MY OPINION and should be read as that.

By the time you have paid for a (possible) repair to an older TT you would probably be better off just biting the bullet and buying a new one, at least that way you would get a few years worth of “free” updates.

I have an old TT Start 25, must be at least 12-15 years old now. I still get free map updates for it!

Out of interest if you have a TT camper do you get the “Camper” map updates regularly as free lifetime ones, or are the updates restricted to just the Europe maps?

Andy

Did the same with an iPad a few years ago. Dropped it perfectly flat on the kitchen laminate floor, dead ‘un!

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with

You're probably right Andy - especially when I factor in the postage both ways, but I've done it now. I was aware of Penguin's experience with the truck version and felt I haven't the time to be looking for alternatives.

I just assumed I was getting camper maps - I hope so! Otherwise I'd've been as well to buy a bog-standard satnav.

Thanks Ray - I hope I don't have to take you up on that.
