Updating maps on garmin

Just in the process of updating the maps on my Garmin satnav. I had to download Garmin express first and then some other program to get that to work. Eventually got to stage where I could connect sat nav and start updating. Tells me it will take over 14 hours !!!!. Looked online and this seems to be the norm for Garmin express. Anyone else come across this or found an easier / quicker way ?

The download time is dependent on your broadband speed and the time remaining shown does vary during the download too. The file size is large.

My recent updates took around 30 minutes. Try the update late evening or early morning when local internet traffic is less.

I seem to remember mine said it was going to take several hours and in the end was about one hour.

first time I updated my Garmon it said 12 hours but took about 90 minutes. Since the first time, I have updated it several times and it states it will take from 10 minutes to 40 minutes, but it only ever takes a couple of minutes.

All I have at home is a 3G Mifi. I am unable to update my Garmin 760 at all. I take it to my Daughters house who has a Virgin Broadband contract and it updates fairly quickly.

Decided to go ahead with the updates and left it on doing its thing overnight. Looked at it this morning and message said unable to load some files. Option to continue so chose that and after another hour and a half all done. Maybe I should update more often as it is a couple of years since I got this sat-nav and never updated it. Still all is good now so thanks to all for input.

I'm on Broadband but not fibre, with a speed of about 6.7Mb/s at the moment and Garmin (Caravan Club Sat Nav) usually takes a couple of hours.

On the last update, a couple of weeks ago, I found it hadn't updated all the European Maps, even though it said it was successful. For example, Spain was missing. After googling I found this is an occasional problem, so I did another update and all was fine. But if I hadn't checked a couple of my saved routes in Spain I wouldn't have known until we landed in Bilbao in December.
