Site needed for Edinburgh Tatoo

We are thinking of getting tickets for Edinburgh Tatoo in August but need somewhere to stop for a couple of nights so that we can explore the area as well as going to the Tatoo. Does anybody have any recommendations for campsites/stopovers that are practical for getting to and from the castle?

Infamy, infamy! They've all got it in for me!

Edinburgh Caravan Club Site at Silverknowes. Nice site, overlooking Firth of Forth. Lovely walks along promenade to Cramond. About 10 mins walk to bus stop for bus into town. There is also a bus shuttle service from the site.

Just can't wait to be on the road again

A few days ago we booked Edinburgh CC site for the last few days of August. It was pretty full up with only some kind of pitches available for the very beginning and end of the month, plus a couple of random single nights. We then also booked the previous 3 nights at Mortonhall, which is a Camping and Caravanning listed site. That might still have some availability.

Thats what I feared! We have possibly left it too late for this year but as we are going to the Cropredy festival in mid-August we thought that we could bomb up to Edinburgh for a few days and take in the Tatoo at the same time. Thanks for your input! I will contact Mortonhall and see if they have a few days available.

Mortonhall Site is very conveniently located on the no. 11 bus route which takes you into the centre of the town. We prefer it now to the Silverknowe CC site as the walk to the bus is shorter and on dark nights is much safer. Mortonhall can get very crowded though.

There is always a temporary holiday site while the tattoo is on run by caravan and camping club and you can usually get tickets for the tattoo as well. Short bus run from the town. Contact Mrs. Macdonald on 07711067135. Think the THS is £7 a night.

If you are not a C&CC member, the Caravan Club also have a temporary holiday site in Dalkeith a field away from the C&CC THS.

The C&CC can also supply Tattoo Tickets as well.

Cheers,
Alan

It won't be long until a wee while now.

Thinking out of the box, there's a CC site at Melrose and a railway station at Tweedbank - the new Borders Railway - which will take you right to the centre at Waverley Station. A bus will take you to Tweedbank to catch the train. There's also plenty parking at Tweedbank Station or in the Industrial Estate less than a minute away. Or you could walk the mile and a half.
