Should I go?

I'm currently in Ireland (from NI) at my daughter's and had intended going on for a few days' travel round Ireland. However, there was talk last night about would I be any safer in Ireland than in France? (I think the family wants rid of me!) and I think the answer is probably no.

So now I'm looking at crossing Dublin-Cherbourg mid September then Bilbao-Rosslare c.5th November. Only problem was, when I booked that return last time it was cancelled (due to the weather map being purple, yeuch!) and I then had to travel via England and Wales as Brittany Ferries have no reciprocal arrangements with Irish Ferries who run the Cherbourg-Dublin. So I'm wondering do I stick to that or instead, go for a loop in France only (which would be cooler).

I'm really only thinking aloud. And looking for input from like-minded motorhomers.

I think I'm just slightly more nervous in the present covid climate as I'm solo. My son says, as he always does, that if anything goes wrong he can fly out to me and drive home, so that's not really a concern I think, if I stay away from big cities.

Well, you lot were no help!!

But I ruminated for some time and.... I've just booked Dublin-Cherbourg for 16th. No return leg as yet but will get insurance in place.

A friend thinks I'm mad - and I may be. I'm not at all anxious about getting myself ready for a longer trip in just over a week!

I couldn't offer anything constructive Jean, not that that usually stops me.

Hi,
We came out through Dover to Dunkirk a month ago. Travelled down through France into Germany , now in Italy. Beautiful weather here. Have not had any problems whatsoever. Don't know whether it affects yourself because we are from Scotland , we couldn't get a QR code at the time so we have paper certificates showing our vacs. We applied in France on the internet for passe- sanitaire-etrangers to let you to go inside restaurants, transport , museums etc. Got word back last week saying they were to busy to do it. You can go to supermarkets and get fuel etc no problem without it.
Enjoy your trip. Hope the weather stays good for you.

Thanks for the info Derek and Geoff - all looking very encouraging!

I downloaded the TousAntiCovid app and was able to upload my vaccination details through the QR code on my certificate. Apparently that's what you need to show for entry to restaurants, museums etc. Tho I'm sure the paper documentation would also do.

I'm still very uncertain about the return leg - originally intended Bilbao-Rosslare but that's Brittany Ferries n they have a 25% non-refundable deposit. I wonder, if I felt the need not to use that trip, would I be able to reschedule to later in the year without forfeiting 25%. It's a Flexi ticket.
