Booking deposit an extra charge

I'm due to meet my son and family next week in a campsite near Zadar, Croatia. I red that it can be quite busy even in low season so thought maybe I should book in the circumstances.

They charge a €40 booking fee which the website says will not be taken off your pitch costs. I assumed this was an error and emailed them. Nope, it's correct.

I've emailed again to ask - do I still pay that if I just turn up?

Has anyone come across that before?

Nope never heard of it, but maybe they can get away with it due to heavy demand for pitches. The old supply and demand pricing structure.

And it's about €33/n plus the 40. Though I'm ACSI so I wouldn't be paying that.

Up until now tho it's been cheaper to go with the campsite prices than ACSI, since I'm on my own.

Also, I discovered my most recent site gave a 5% discount for cash - maybe they all do.

Thats extortionate Jean. Don't succumb and wing it. I know you want to make sure it's all tickety boo when family comes but being screwed in the process is just not on.

Absolutely Ray! And that's what I'm doing.

Got an email back from Zaton - no pre-booking, no fee. Seems a right rip-off. If it was €5, fair enough, but €40!!!

Anyway, if they've no space I just bed down with son and family in their apartment!

Campsite in Paris...'Yes sir we have a taxi number...do you want me to call for you', 'Yes please'.....Taxi driver, just as we were reaching our destination, 'I have to tell you that there is an 8 Euro booking fee as the campsite arranged your journey!'.....'I'm sorry but it was on the meter from the beginning Sir'.
I've seen a few deposit charges at home and abroad.
At least you knew before you paid

Ted.
I try and state simple facts in a nice way.
