I bought the books last year and used them while we were away in France and found them a little confusing until I found the map to go with them
Even so, when I was using my satnag, which has ACSI installed, I often couldn't find the site in the book even though it was on my screen and I was sat outside it
I see that there is also an ACSI app available that I assume I simply pay for the download info and that will also generate the discount card?
So, do I get the new 2016 book as well as the app? What do others do? Or shall I do like I did this year i.e. drive till I'm tired and just look for something local aire, site or whatever? I'll be SW France for September, hopefully the sites will quieten down by then
You need to buy the books as usual, since the discount card is in the flyleaf of one of them and can't be bought separately.
Then if you look on one edge of the discount card it gives you a code number. You then download the ACSI App. Be careful, there are two and you want the one which shows only the participating sites. You then enter the code to activate it. Only about three quid extra and well worth it. (All this from memory, so hope it's correct.)
I believe it's possible this year to buy both books and App at the same time, direct from ACSI Holland. If you can navigate their website I expect it will tell you . . . somewhere!!
Hope this helps
Dave
P.S. The ACSI App is excellent. It contains much more information than the books, including (for most sites) a range of reviews. Not all in English of course, but very helpful. They warned us off the site at Grandcamp Maisey, and with good reason. What a dump!!
Just to add to Daves comprehensive reply, you can buy the 2016 books AND the 2016 App for 11.95 Euros + 2 Euros delivery from the ACSI website - www.campingcard.co.uk - then click on webshop in the top right corner. You should see the ad - NEW Campingcard ACSI Combi Subscription. As Dave says you must buy the books in order to get the CC Discount Card. I have found customer services at ACSI very helpful and of course being Dutch they speak excellent English.

I agree with the posts that the books are good , I did not find the map till we got home!!! In the back of the second book, on examining it wish it had been in the form of maps like the one they do for Aires. Wonder what form the APP takes - will it make it easier to locate ? Wendy
Download it and have a look at the demo Wendy. You can do that without having to activate it.
It's brilliant. It has off line GPS location so you can see exactly where you are in relation to the site(s) you want to visit, and they claim to record the GPS co-ordinates at the campsite gates, so it can't be much more accurate.
Their English is usually better than my English!! :surprise:
They are far more grammatically correct, whereas I guess most native English speakers are often a bit careless in their speech. I tend to write fairly formally, but my speech is often "casual" to say the least!!
Completely 'off-topic', this all reminds me of a delightful Dutch couple that we met on an ACSI site a few years ago, Mikke and Japp. We returned to the site one afternoon to find them and a small crowd gathered around their old type 2 VW. They had 'locked' their keys inside the van! After watching proceedings for an hour or so I eventually wandered across and un-noticed tried the passenger door. You can guess the rest!!! Being the lovely couple that they were they bought me a beer that evening. Happy memories........
As far as I can remember the app is free to download but you have to pay to download the maps and campsite details. Cost of download depends a bit on how many countries you want to dowload.
It's easy with ASCI to get it wrong but I now have on my iPad 2 apps, one from 2014 with French and British sites, and this year's with French and German. Perhaps if I'd have done it right I would have downloaded this year's maps onto the original app. It will be even more confusing next year if I end up downloading a third version of the app. It is very useful though once you get it sorted.

The CC App, which only has the sites that participate in the discount scheme, as opposed to the confusingly named 'ACSI Inspected Sites', which are not part of the discount scheme, costs Euros 3.95 in total. As Zebedee posted earlier, you can only buy access to this App with the code that is printed on your CC discount card. Once you have bought the basic App (for 3.95) you are then able to download the participating sites for each individual country and there is NO additional cost beyond the initial outlay. Whether you download one country or ten, the cost is still the same. The App lasts for 1 calendar year, so on December 31st the 2015 App will become redundant and you will have to purchase the 2016 App. All pretty confusing, but confusion is the name of the game with ACSI:wink2:
I still love'em though:grin2:
Personally find the DVD more useful than the app. I tend to use it for planning prior to a trip. If you are on the road and looking for a site nearby I can see that the app is better for that.
As they are selling the ACSI 2016 book and CC app together does this mean you can activate the app as soon as you receive them?
Or do you have to wait until January?
I can see that there could be some confusion with 3 different ACSI apps so make sure you download the one(s) you want.
Personally I FAR prefer the app (on my ipad) to the books.
Download the maps for whatever countries you want.
When you open the app you are presented with a map of all the countries ACSI cover. For the countries you have downloaded there are icons showing the campsites. If there are lot in an area there is a number to show how many there are.
Zoom in to whatever area you want and all of the sites visible on the map (shown by an icon) are listed down the side of the screen. Zoom in closer and less sites are visible (until you zoom out again)
Click on each site on the side bar of the screen to get better details such as opening period and ACSI discount period, phone number, Satnav co-ordinates, email address and most importantly reviews of the site by actual visitors. The added bonus is that you DONT need internet access, its all stored on your computer/tablet !!
It is FAR easier than the book to use, and I really cannot remember the last time I opened the book (other than to remove the ACSI card)
As others have said, you MUST purchase the books, that gives you the ACSI card, on the card is a unique ref number, you enter that number into the ACSI website to enable you (after the extra payment of a few euro's of course) to download the information about the various sites, you require that ref number to prove you have bought the book!! No book no downloady mister !!!
I would be happy to pay the money just for the App (and the card of course!!) and not bother with the books at all, its that good!
Andy
