snowchains in summer

, I am travelling through France/Switzerland and Italy leaving in July and returning
In October. Do I need to carry snowchains during these months s it law or not.

unlikely it's the law in those months - usually it's Nov/Dec to Mar/April

but over high passes it's not unknown to find snow blocking the road - we couldn't get over the Col de Tourmalet one September due to heavy snowfall but it's not that common.

if you have space, throw them in - it won't hurt

Useful for muddy fields too as are snow socks, in some situations sock are even better than chains.

yep - socks are good as well - I keep a pair in the m/h all the time

You may find that in some places obligatory winter kit starts in October.

There is snow at the moment both in Alps and Pyrenees
