Personal Aire
local gendarmes do look at English motors, so a more visible show of conforming with the approved protector and deflector will head them off.

Previous owner of my van put beam deflectors directly onto the headlights, long termed in Spain & didn't bother removing them. It took me 5 hours of scraping to get the things off, and it has scratched the surface (been considering using the gentle cutting compound that you can get for scratch removal on caravan habitation windows to try to get it out).

As others have said, the main point of these protectors is not to guard against stone chips etc, but that it makes it very easy to apply/remove beam deflectors. With today's crystal headlights, it ensures you have the patches in the right spot. And with the cost of beam deflectors nowadays, it doesn't take many trips to get your money back.
