Euro 6 Y Engine

I’m looking at the possible purchase of a new Motorhome. According to the Fiat CoC the engine is a 2.3l 130hp Euro 6Y engine. The Motorhome was built in 2019 so was before the new 2020 Euro 6D engines were available.

I thought last years engine was a Euro 6B, so where does a Euro 6Y come in?

There’s a method to my madness.

My present van is 3850kg while the new one would be 3500kg. Being the wrong side of 70 I have to do a medical for a C1 licence renewal and the last time that involved a treadmill test. Downsizing to 3500kg will allow me to drive on a B licence.

I cannot be sure but I think the Y refers to the number/letter allocation in the attached extract from a German document. Euro 6 groups W X or Y are euro 6b and dependant upon introduction date and final date etc.

Wouldn’t worry about it that much, Euro 6 is still Euro 6, besides we will all be driving “Duracell” vehicles soon if the “Green Facist” get their way. Just be sure to take delivery before 1st April or you will Getz Royally shafted for the next five years VED!

On that very subject I am currently in Hanoi, Vietnam. I don’t see much evidence of “Green” transport here, thousands upon thousands of non-euro-anything mopeds and motorbikes belching out fumes, and even THINK about what comes out of the buses and lorries.

HurricaneSmith and kabundi like this.

Its not the destination that matters.

It's who you share the journey with (even if like me, it’s in a caravan!)
I am very fortunate to have Mrs Plodd to share mine with
