Red face FIAT Dash Lighting.

Hello All,

My Fiat/Hymer was registered May 2016. Along with many other owners there is a problem with the dash illumination and reading the Speedo even with the road lights on.

I phoned Fiat Customer Service yesterday and there is a software upgrade solution available. My van does qualify for this. It can be done at your nearest Fiat Professional dealer and is free of any charges. There isn't going to be an official recall. The problem is from 2015 to present vans.

FIAT Customer Services is 00800 3428 1111 option 13, then option 2.
I just had to give them my chassis & registration numbers.

Hope this is helpful.
Al.

As you say, it's a problem that's been discussed here before.

This thread includes members who would be interested to hear of the solution:

All the software update does is to put the dash lights on all the time, so it is the same as when the lights are turned on. In normal daylight driving the update makes very little difference, in my opinion.
If you do decide to have it done, make sure your dealer has the update on their system, as they have to apply for it and it takes 24 hours for them to get it downloaded.
I have a small piece of tinfoil covered card (cakeboard) blutacked to the top of the steering column, which reflects the natural light through the screen back onto the speedo. Works OK for me in brighter light conditions.

Sometimes it is better to stay silent and just let people think you are stupid, rather than open your mouth and prove that you are.

Had mine modified several months ago and there is hardly any difference.
In dull light or when driving under trees you can just about tell that the dials are illuminated but in sunlight it is hopeless.
Due to poor lighting and reflection I can't read the left hand side of the speedo i.e. below about 100kph. I use the Garmin as a speedo.
