I've never had that particular engine, All mine apart from 2 were 2.8 Jtd I found the earlier ones a bit harsh, I did test drive a couple just in case as they were cheaper.

So no real experience of your engine, but the Jtd will go into 5th at 40, but is happier nearer to 50 on level ground, and drop to 4th for anything that looks like a hill to keep momentum up.

The jtd is the same engine but fueled differently, but unusable until 75mph seems radically wrong unless you're racing the bugger I found 5th more than up the job even towing a 2t trailer, admittedly I was limited to 60mph, but no problems, surely the very slight difference in hp and torque figures would not make that much of a difference.

Loads of info here> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Ducato

For comparison, mine is the 100 multijet and it's very quick off the mark, but only has 5 gears.

So after a weekend away, the new fifth gear has had a good run and I'm very pleased with it. I can change into fifth at 50 if I want or push forth up towards 60 on a hill and fifth is good from 50 to 70ish. I didn't want to push it past 70 but felt I could a little bit. I went from the m40, round the m25 and onto the m23 doing 65 to 70 all the way and it was only on steep hills I couldn't keep above 60 but it still managed to hold 60. I had a slightly more sedate drive back and cruised nicely all the way at 60 apart from 1 big hill which required fourth at 50.

I've gone from the stock 0.60 gear ratio for the 2.8 turbo diesel to the 0.716 intended for the 2.0 petrol and 2.5 non turbo diesel.

What coach builder did you have for your JTD? A small number did actually fit the different gear or offer it as an extra and some people had it done themselves so it could be that yours already had the alternative ratio.

I've subscribed to this conversation but haven't worked out if there is an option for notifications somehow so never know if there are any new posts on it. Is that an option somewhere?
