Fiat Ducato 1998 2.5 tdi Fifth gear selector wanted

Hi,
I'm new to this forum I've registered in desperation as I need a new 5th gear selector for 1998 fiat Ducato 2.5tdi tcat.I contacted fiat and they said they could get one but it would have to come from Italy and take a 1week,3 weeks later they said sorry the part if no longer available.
I'm now running out of options thought maybe someone may be able to help.
Fingers crossed,
Thanks in advance.
Justin.

What is the problem with the gearbox? I had a 1999 2.5td where the 5th gear started dropping out. I had a local gearbox specialist sort it out, basically the 5th gear is an add-on to an old 4 speed box, and they have problems because the gear isn't up to the job. Maybe your first port of call should be a gearbox specialist who may have contacts ?

Hi,
It was jumping out of fifth gear thought it was the gear itself or the synchro as lots of posts say about the fifth gear issue. On removing the fifth gear it seemed fine as did the synchro but the selector was worn and I don't think that it is engaging into fifth gear correctly so I'm going down the selector route,Hope that will sort it if I can find a selector.
Cheers.

I'd get an expert opinion before spending any money, but researching the possible parts needed won't harm, and maybe useful to other members if you post the results of your efforts, it's what keeps us going
