Toad in the hole for cooking in the MoHo

It is very similar to the traditional method, with a couple of twists, but comes out perfick.

140g of plain flour.

2-3 eggs,

Big pinch of salt,

Big pinch of ground white Pepper,

250 milliliters of milk, not semi-skilled,

2-3 Sausages each, I prefer the standard Richmond ones, plenty of flavour but not over the top.

One or two (200mm) dishes, one larger one works for us.

Smear dish in butter or your favourite oil.

Mix batter (at home and take in a container works for us just give it a good shake) just before putting it in the oven ad 50 millilitres of water to the mix, I ran out of milk once so tried this and it seems to work fine so I do it every time now.

Heat the oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7 and pop it in, 30-40 ish minutes, look after 25 minutes to see how it's doing as all ovens vary speshly van ones.
.

We like to have it with mashed spuds, frozen or fresh makes little difference, and I dice up a portobello mushroom and put it into the Bisto gravy for a few minutes to warm them up, I'm not keen on onion gravy.

The other twist is you put it into a COLD oven, saves a bit of gas on site or wilding, takes about 5 minutes longer, you can either fry and add the sausages or put them in the batter to cook, seems to make no difference.

I have just made a plain pudding to take with us as a speriment.

Tempted to eat this for me lunch, it's in a 14x14 inch dish.

I will tell the memsahib and then make myself scarce.

Ray.

The FSA formerly SIB & PIA licensed a twice convicted fraudster to handle our lifeīs savings. Guess what? He robbed us of £750,000. So they changed their name again to the FCA.

It looks delicious. Thanks for the recipe, I like when a cooking process doesn't require much time and effort.

We had it last night as Liz was wiped out and I'm not a good cook but this always seems to come out right, but last night was slightly under done.

I prefer to do it the hot way because it doesn't stick to the dish so much.
