Crumpets, Muffins & Mince Pies

Rita decided to have eggs on crumpets for a snack lunch, and a packet of Mince Pies was available for afters.

She called the crumpets "Muffins", which is what they are called in the USA, but they were good old fashioned Crumpets as far as I could see.

Agreed to differ on that one!

Then the Mince Pies, and they were TINY! Really noticeably smaller than the last box we bought, but the price was probably the same. These were from Asda, yet last year we had some really nice ones that went off the shelves like the proverbial hot cakes, never to be seen again.

Time to start making our own methinks.

Hi Peter,

If you can find Walkers mince pies, give them a try, they are made in Aberlour, a little bit expensive but well worth looking for.

I lived in Derby as a kid and I went shopping with Mum some Saturdays anyway we could buy fresh pyclets outside the market from a street vendor, they seem to be called crumpets up here, the ones with holes in the top anyway, after that we used to go to the Kardoma for coffee, awful stuff, yuk, still don't like strong coffee, but I could wolf down the cakes, I was always told not to tell my dad for some reason.

Not keen on Muffins, too posh for me

Just came back from UK last Sunday with 3 x £1 boxes of Morrisons 6 mince pies for Christmas.
I have eaten the lot.!!!

Crumpets are crumpets

Muffins are muffins

They are not the same

Floured oven bottoms are not the same as floured baps

Aldi extra special mince pies won the award for two years previously

The bread is crap though in my opinion

What no mincemeat Jan ?

How do you do Christmas ?

Good mince pies, warmed, top prised off and filled with clotted cream

Really slimming and good for a calorie controlled diet

Honest

We don't do Christmas Sandra, it's just another day. I don't know if we'll even bother with a tree this year.

Spot on Peter, they are crumpets. I have not heard of putting cream in your mince pies Sandra. Do you put it in your hot-pots too?
