Ray.
I remember thinking about replacing my 3g mifi with a 4g one then read that hey are capped to 3g when away from 'home' - at last that was the case with the provider 3G last year - may have changed now.

Looks like it's best to buy everything locally then? At least if your staying in the one place like us.

Ray.

The FSA formerly SIB & PIA licensed a twice convicted fraudster to handle our life“s savings. Guess what? He robbed us of £750,000. So they changed their name again to the FCA.

Who do you use for your phone / internet provider Ray?
We use Orange and have just changed our contract to what they call Open Play, had to put one of our mobiles with them (ported the number) with this you get all the usual landline benefits i.e. free calls to Europe including UK and North America Livebox for WIFI, which will also give you French TV if you want it, free calls and texts on mobile as well as a second SIM to use in MIFI etc. with 30 Gb per month which can be used Europe wide for €59.99 a month.
They do other packages 40, 80 up to 100Gb per month although that one is €99.99 a month.

Forgot to mention, they will also supply what they call Home Box which is their version of a MIFI (4G) with the contract for a one of cost €10.
They've got a pretty good English speaking helpline as well.

.

Thanks john,sfr.
I have been so peed orff with sfr at times and have been tempted to move to Orange. But then I hear some horror stories about Orange and stay. Plus I gather it can take weeks without any phone or internet while the changeover slowly happens and losing your number in the process. It happens.
I agree Orange do seem to have much better customer service than sfr and the English line when working. Not difficult with sfr customer service being zero.
I have been happy with the cost compared to Orange and the benefits we have at the moment but sfr have recently added €3 a month modem rental and another €1 for TV on a tablet which we don't use. Then they add sports and promptly discount this.
Total is declared at €32.98 but always comes in at €42.59 by the time that have added and subtracted all sorts of additions and remises to completely confuse the client.

I have recently cancelled both sfr mobiles and just keep an English payg for my wife and emergencies and the French Prixtel mobile usually €9.99 a month with more calls and data than we ever need.
So total phone bills are €52 and we normally don't need any more. It's just the unknown Wi Fi and TV at the new apartment we have rented in Portugal that this query arose.
We are not big mobile phone users and just checking mail now and again while out is something I have become used to.

But things might change although now with sfr 20+ years. But I could never say I was ever happy with sfr.
